The centrally located Apartmento Opera is a very popular choice, and the Palace neighbourhood it is in houses some of the most remarkable architectural monuments of the city, among them, the Royal Palace and the Opera House. The area is characterised by small boutiques on charming streets, and a quick survey will show visitors wide squares, beautiful public gardens, and lots of cafes and restaurants to enjoy the scenery from. Palace is know as an excellent shopping area, due to its famous Arenal street, which is perhaps one of the busiest shopping streets in the entire city (you have been warned!). Plaza Mayor, Gran Via, Puerto del Sol, and Plaza de Espana, are only a short walk away, and the historic and cultural feel of the area is evident as this is perhaps the oldest part of Madrid.
